IRANKICKS KARAJ, The Iranian national team defeats Indonesia 5 - 0 in a friendly match

Freydoon Zandi

Head Coach, Afshin Ghotbi started his team with Hossein Kaebi as captain because of the absence of Mahdavikia, Nekounam and Karimi. The game was played with both teams missing their stars, as Indonesia's domestic league has yet to finish, and in Iran's case, the European leagues are just wrapping up. Persepolis Tehran's players were also missing because of a match between Bunyodkor, Uzbekistan in the AFC Champions League tomorrow.

Despite presenting an uncreative first half, the whole match was dominated by the Iranians from the first minute to the last.

The first goal was scored by Indonesia's own midfielder when the ball was sent in, and mistakingly headed into his own goal.

The second goal came at the 54th minute when Arash Borhani sent a one timer pass to Freydoon Zandi who had no trouble sending it in with a right foot shot.

At the 67th minute, Arash Borhani scored the third goal from a brillian assist by Mohammad Reza Khalatbari who sent an astonishing through ball pass to Borhani.

The fourth goal came at the 72nd minute, when Khosro Heydari dribbled past a defencemen in the box before sending it to Mohammad Reza Khalatbari who netted in his only goal of the match.

Lastly, the fifth goal was a grounded shot by Freydoon Zandi at the 89'th minute, securing the win for Iran.

The man of the match was Freydoon Zandi who showed a brilliant performance, setting an example for the younger players on the team. The most disappointing player of the match was Arash Borhani who missed 6 clear chances to score, but shot the ball well wide. His performance was disastrous despite scoring a goal for Iran.

Iran now head to China to begin their final training sessions before playing a match against the Chinese on June 2nd.

Iran's next world cup qualifiers match is on June 6th where they will have to win against the North Koreans to have any shot at making it to South Africa 2010.
