According to Tauj ( the president of national teams committee), in his opinion IFF will agree with this request. The last friendly game was played between the two teams was in Jan 2000 in LA and I as recall Azizi dazzled with his awesome moves in that game and as a result he got a contract with San Jose Earthquake.

the article says the game in Azadi stadium, so it won't be in california.
Also, I don't think this happens specially when the political atmosphere is in turmoil. with multiple war threats looming in the corner.

I hope the game will be played at the Rose Bowl or The L.A. Colosseum.

Since Iran has so many offers from so many world class soccer countries for a friendly, I think they should look at playing USA very closely.
USA is a very good team, but we sure don't want to replace a friendly with Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain and such.

Apparently we're one step closer to see this match taking place in a 2 leg friendly match:

Iran federation OKs soccer friendly with US
Wed, 27 May 2009 17:30:57 GMT

Iran's Football Federation (IFF) has agreed to the US request to hold two friendly matches between the two countries' national soccer squads.

"We are interested in holding friendly matches against the United States," said the IFF president Ali Kafashian on Tuesday.

"The first leg of the match will be held in the Iranian capital Tehran and the second leg in the US," he added.

The exact date of the matches will be determined after Iran's World Cup qualifiers.

Iranian sports officials said that the Iran-US matches must be approved by the International Council of Iranian Physical Education.

"The US women's national soccer team has also expressed readiness to play against the Iranian women's squad in Tehran. We are considering the issue at the moment," he explained.

The US and Iranian national soccer teams played as a part of the World Cup in 1998 in France. Iran defeated the United States 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at the game.

Iran and the US have not had diplomatic relations since Washington severed ties with Tehran in 1980.
