Afshin Qotbi
Former Persepolis coach Afshin Qotbi is one of the candidates who may be chosen to steer Iran's national soccer team, the IFF chief says.

Iran's national soccer coach Ali Daei was sacked after his team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia in its fifth World Cup qualifier at Tehran's Azadi Stadium on Saturday.

"Persepolis' coach for last season is one of the options we are considering for handing over the rein of the national team to," chairman of the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) Ali Kafashian told Fars News Agency on Sunday.

The former coach of the Reds stepped down on November 18, 2008 due to the failure of the club's authorities in fulfilling their promises.

Kafashian said that the IFF prefers to appoint an Iranian couch ahead of the upcoming games.

The victory sent Saudi Arabia to third place in Group B with seven points, three points behind North Korea, which beat the United Arab Emirates 2-0 earlier on Saturday to claim top spot.

South Korea, which is in second place with eight points out of four matches, will host first-placed North Korea on Wednesday. Iran is fourth with six points out of five matches.

I think if Ali and Qotbi could co exist may be they can beat Korea 1 Korea 2 together -

I mean look at Saudis they fogave all the players, who were internally banned , they benched all the brand name players - selected the BEST fittest players - and they did what they had to

Substance over ego -

And this is what Ali daei needs to do come to terms with Qotbi and together they can guide the ship back on track -

Team FITNESS is major issue

I doubt that Qotbi is a pleusible replacement. With all the fiasco and all financial dispute between him and Persepolis when he left, he wouldn't be coming back to Iran anytime soon.

In my opinion Mayeli Kohan will get the position.

I hope not.

That hezbollahi olagh will ruin our TM. ruin ke shode, badtaresh mikone.
I personally prefer Ghotbi over that rishoo loser.

I don't think Qotbi will return back to Iran. He was sached because he was Iranian/American (Based his interview with BBC). I don't think IFF will try to add another controvercy to this by recalling him.

Qotbi should not come and take an impossible task.

this is not the right time. He should be given the chance after the qualifiers!

Iam not very into the coaching arena but I remeber qotbi was "adam hesabi" judging from his interviews and attetude...I am guessing he is not a hezbolahi...(correct me if iam wrong)
Besides him do we have other options ( real options who are member of the mafia regime)????

( bache jordan its been a long time man... ;))

Qotbi will have a major mountain to climb to get Iran out of this one. This is a big mess Daei got us into.

Apparently Mayeli Kohan has been appointed as TM HC. It's not confirmed by IFF yet, and I am hoping this is only a rumor!
