Just spoke with my dad in Iran and he said the Saudi Arabia's Captain Yasser Al Gahtani has been suspended from the team due to violation of team rules and did not even come to Iran for the game.
Gahtani, aside from being the teams captain, is also the best player and the best scorer SA has. This will be a big boast for our team.

The news is also confirmed on Iran Sport Press.

In the last Asian Cup, Qahtani was really good. But he just came back from an injury and he is slowly getting into shape from that injury. He does not play 90 minutes for Saudi but he is an effective player once on the field. As far as the best goal scorer, I think Saudi has better scorers that recently have been in good form. I am not sure if Gahtani has scored any goals in WCQ so far - maybe one goal.

RIYADH: Acting tough against indiscipline, Saudi Arabia coach Jose Peseiro has shown the door to their star striker Yasser Al Qahtani for the teamís forthcoming two FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The decision was taken after the 2007 Asian Player of the Year did not turn up in the training camp on Tuesday, a day after his club Al Hilalís domestic league game against Al Wehda.

The 26-year-old, who had played a key role in Saudi Arabiaís runners-up finish in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, was due to miss the teamís match against Iran on March 28 due to suspension but has also been kept away from the side for their April 1 fixture against the UAE.

ďThe coach has decided against including Yasser Al Qahtani after he missed the training and didnít reply repeated phone calls,Ē announced Saudi team manager Fahad Musaybih.

Meanwhile, defender Hussain Sulaimani, who struts his stuff for Swiss side Neuchatel, has joined the team on Tuesday.

Well this could come and bite the coach Jose Peseiro in the a$$ hard. Imagine if Iran wins this game 2-0 or even 1-0 how much of a backlash this will have with the Saudia media? Coach might be just doing this to have a built in excuse for the media. I remember Yasir Al Qahtani in AC 2007 but as Hamid jan said he is commin back from an injury. They will still pose a strong side and KSA is always known for tough defense and great goalie play, along with deadly counter attacks.

Sherwin jaan, like the article mentions he wasn't going to play against Iran anyways, since he had 2 yellow cards! I just hope Iran doesn't put it's guard down, since we are still the underdog in this match.

Typical reaction by un-educated superstars... When you are so good on the pitch, you think your apport to the team is reduced to 0 if you for some reason cannot play. It is a good and courageous decision by KSA's HC however we all know how nastily and unfairly this could be used by his bosses if KSA loses to UAE!!!

Its a 2 Yellow card suspension -

Also the He was demoted as a Team Captain about time while he is a GREAT striker !!! He is not the ideal Team captain as he lacks ability to talk to players and motivate them
