Specialized Website on Sasanian Persian Empire Launched

A highly specialized Website was launched to exclusively deal with and collect data on the Sassanid (Sasanian) dynasty, Iranian Cultural Heritage News Agency reported.

Sponsored by the American Iranology Institute, the site is launched by Dr. Iraj Daryaee, professor of California State University. Daryaee took his Ph.D. in History at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1999. He specializes in the history and culture of Ancient Persia.

Commenting on his aim to launch Sasanika.com, he told CHN, “When I realized there are many sources in the Western nations on the Sasanian era, but Iran lacks them, I decided to set up a Website for that.” One of the most remarkable empires of the first millennium CE was that of the Sasanian Persian Empire. Emanating from southern Iran 's Persis region in the third century AD, the Sasanian domain eventually encompassed not only modern day Iran and Iraq , but also the greater part of Central Asia and the Near East , including at times, the regions corresponding to present-day Israel , Turkey , and Egypt .

This geographically diverse empire brought together a striking array ethnicities and religious practices. Arameans, Arabs, Armenians, Persians, Romans, Goths as well as a host of other peoples all lived and labored under Sasanian rule. It is the aim of the Sasanika: Late Antique Near East Project to bring to light the importance of the Sasanian civilization in the context of late antique and world history.

Dr. Daryaee’s main objectives are as follows:

1. Integration of the Sasanian Empire into the field of late antiquity, as well as the field of world history

2. The creation of a web-site dedicated to Sasanian ciilization:
www.sasanika.com

3. The establishment of panels on Sasanians studies, dedicated to a specific theme in Sasanian studies 4.Publication of Sasanian material culture

5. Re-dsicovery and re-attribution of many artifacts that are Sasanian in origin

bauvafa jaan thanks for putting this up. I had the honor of sitting in Professor Daryaees class in UCLA for an extension course he was teaching and had a few talks with him. He is a great gentleman and a very good assett to have. Its really amazing that he is doing this and I am sure he will get aid from others as well. Sassanian Iran is tought in UCLA once a year under the regular sessions and there are American Professors such as Dr. Morony who are experts in the field.

it is great move but the site doesnt offer anything other than few pdf files on history.

Few years back I wanted to set up a website that navigates the Persian history in simple fashion yet provide enough information for those who which to learn more. Most sites offer a very boring and text based information that is either too advance for most users or too little information. If I ever find some time and money  I may take on the project. It will be great advanture.
