Persian Gulf News: Map row settled, Iran will take part in Islamic Games

Tehran, July 7, IRNA -- The Head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Wednesday said the row between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the name of "Persian Gulf" was settled and the country will dispatch sportsmen to the peninsula where the first Islamic States' Games is held.
Talking to IRNA, Mostafa Hashemi-Taba added Iran will pit top players in 12 fields of the Games slated for late March 2005.

The organizing committee printed a map on which the "Persian" Gulf was renamed by the "Arabian" Gulf.

The NOC supreme had already warned Iran would not participate in the games if Saudi officials did not give a reasonable response for the mistake.

Hashemi-Taba urged the related federations to make arrangements for the overseas event.

naderjan, I heard this news on Persian Gulf Task Force list, there is no confirmation of what name they are going to use, the article does not make it clear, but I can't see Saudi Arabia using Persian Gulf, maybe they said they would use the gulf, but Iran must boycott the tournament unless the full and correct name of Persian Gulf is used

and then arabs say why do you iranians take this persian gulf thing so seriously, this is why, because ARABS keep trying change the name. if people just called it by itsproper name, we would never even bring up the persian gulf, unless ofcourse one of us went fishing there and we wanted to share the story with friends.
