Looks like ancient Persians treated nature as a living entity, and hence came up with punishments for it! When Cyrus the Great was marching toward Babylon his troops came upon the river Gyndes, which joins Tigres. One of Cyrus’ sacred white horses attempts to swim across the river but is swept away by the current. Herodotus writes “Cyrus was so furious with the river for daring to do such a thing, that he swore he would punish it by making it so weak that even a woman could get over in future without difficulty and without wetting her knees”

So what does he do? He holds up his march against Babylon, divides his army into two parts and marks 180 channels at each side of the river, spends the whole summer digging channels, and manages to have divided the river into 360 different channels running in different directions. That’s power for ya :D

like in every country's history there were better and worser leaders in Iranian history! while Kurosh is known as an inteligent and fair leader,who could solve complex problems, Xerxes seemed to be exactly the opposite! Xerxes was arrogant,selfish and very stupid, he really is the main factor why we lost that war to Greeks although we had more soldiers and ships!!!!!
