Perjaad agha,
if you increase your speed at the corner by 5 km/h to 15km/h, i'm sure you'll flip. ;)
I've got a Civic like Blues, except mine hasn't been in an accident ;).
IK COP
07-03-2004, 11:57 AM
na, it wont flip. I have taken turns at 140KM/h on track . I have a solid rear axcel. It is suppose to go on 3 wheels. VW are known to lift the rear wheel while taking a sharp turn.
These 2 other vw are taking exact same turn

so what makes it so special then?
I must say I am not a car expert
IK COP

BJ, I am a fan of old VW. The new ones are fine but they are not what VW used to stand for.
When you drive a real VW (1978-1992) you would feel the road. As VW used to say you become one with the car and the road. The new ones are too soft, too quite, too luxury for my taste.
I use my jetta for racing so it has to have a stiff frame yet be as light as possible. 1985-1992 jetta are light and have a better front to back weight ratio.
your right perjad. i watched a car program last year called top gear on bbc and they had a race between all new hatchbacks, golf, ford focus, beetle, etc and the old mk2 golf. the old golf beat them all in a straight 1 mile race, first off the line and first to finish.
fan i never knew you had a civic hatchback?
do you do any stunts in it? handbrack turns or anything? iv tried doing some stunts in my car when the road is wet and its quite a fun car to drive. i love the honda handbrakes.

Perjad it seems you are reluctant to post your times. And why is that? Can you atleast tell us what the engine has or what you have done to it?
IK COP
07-03-2004, 09:04 PM
I dont drag race, I can only guess what my 1/4 mile time is!
you either setup the car for straight line racing or for road track racing.
on track I have had faster times than Ford Mustang 5.0, few vettes, VW VR6, lots of Hondas, etc. At same time I have lost to Ford Escort :wall:
track racing is 90% driver 10% car. Power means nothing if your car cant take the tunrs.
My engine in stock form produced 75 wheel horse power and 90 Wheel torque. After many many modification I have pushed it up to 122 wheel horse power and 140 wheel Torque.
note that Wheel horse power is different than what companies advertise.
A car with advertised 100hp is pushing about 70 to 75 hp to the wheel.
for example I have seen a Honda SIR rated at 160 hp pushed 120 wheel hp with exhaust intake chip etc. on a mustang dynometer.

Blue,
i used to have a honda prelude, but i had an accident a few years ago, and had to get a new car. The prelude was great, so i had to get another Honda.
i used to try tricks in the prelude- hand brake turns were awesome, especially because preludes have four wheel steering. Unfortunately, i use to think driving fast all the time made me cool, so now that i've "matured", my civic is my "settling down for awhile" car. Its my "drive me to the train station" and "take me out on weekend" car.
PS. i really dont know why hondas stopped making preludes- they were the best cars. if you can get your hands on one, get it!
im sure they were good cars, iv seen a few about but not many. i think im gonna hold on to this civic for about a year, im happy with it as im sure you are with yours. and if for no other reason, ill keep it just to piss perjad off
the new civics S and type r look really nice. i was having a look at them in my local honda showroom the other day and they look sweet. maybe a little too big for a hatchback.
one thing iv come to realise since driving my own car is that my car cant be just about looks, there has to be some performace and power. i used to think any car that look good will do but once your sitting in the car what do you see? just the sterring wheel, the dashboard and the speedometer.
having said thatmy next car will be either a lamboghini murchialago or a aston martin vanquish :D

Blue admit it, you want that Gti 1.8T so bad
if i had the money, i would have chosen the golf for sure. but you know, i think i made a good choice going with the civic for first car.
perjad i know deep down you like hondas, dont deny it. i bet when your vw gang is not around you secretley hire a honda and drive around town ;)

sorry I said it before but between audi and VW I would definitely chose audi.
I prefer A3 to golf. and A4 convertiable and S4 are great too.
Ali_Khalili
07-04-2004, 08:55 AM
In terms of Audi and VW, since Audi is owned by VW AG, it can be said that they are very similar in terms of aspects relating to their cars, but you cant really state which is the better manufacturer - it depends on the model. For example, VW have the R32 Golf which outpaces and outhandles the similar class Audi S3, along with costing less and having similar build quality. The Audi A8, however, is better handling and quicker than the equivilent VW Phaeton in the similar price range, so it all really depends on the car models individually. :)

Ali is right on the money. I am glad we got another Vdub fan on IK.
Audi A3 and Golf use the same platform, some of their engine options are the same as well. one major difference is suspension. Audi is using independent rear suspension where as VW still uses trailing arm solid axile.
Vw are chepaer and have less option which makes them lighter.

this is the original pocket rocket that started the hot hatch craze. All the hatch in today's market are offspring of VW original design and thinking.
Long lived the originality.

Congrats, the Kompressor is Supercharged rite? Give us some engine specs please .....
Ali_Khalili
07-05-2004, 02:04 PM
It sure is,
Its a 1.8 litre Alloy-Block inline four engine, with a compact supercharger, or 'Kompressor'. The car is rated at 170 ps at 5700 rpm, with 244 Newton Meters of torque from 2500 rpm to about 5000 rpm. The car is different to the previous generation E200K as it uses a smaller capacity engine, which is both lighter and torquier than with the previous 2.0 version used on the W210 E-class (which was basically a the standard 2.0 Mercedes block with an added supercharger towards the end of the model year).
With more than twenty thousands kilometers of mileage on the clock, I have recorded a sprint to 100 km/h in 8.67 seconds with one accompanying passenger and a stopwatch. I have not come close to achieving the car's potential top speed due to the strict speed limit laws and enforcement locally, but its claimed at upwards of 240 km/h or so.
The car is fairly nimble in terms of handling and very predictable, probably due to the wide-section tires (225 front and back) as well as revised suspension tuning and the fact that the E200K is unofficially the lightest current E-class. The steering is a tad light though when driving enthusiastically.
Perjad - I like your concept of a VW Jetta racecar! From the pictues you seem to have minimised body roll in cornering, but yes those three wheeled tight corners are trademark VW entertainment. Considering the removal of weight within the car, how is the handling on the limit with the stock wheels?
IK COP
07-05-2004, 04:44 PM
Ali jaan, if you got the automatic tranny then your acceleration is around 8.0 sec. My jetta will have your Benz for snack :)
Ps. Not a good idea to post your Lic plate.

Ali jaan, I am using race springs for front and back with 28mm rear sway bar.
The springs are rated at 440lb for front and 280lb for rear. The stock spring rate is 120lb front and 90 in the back. Currently I am using Falken azenis tires on 14" (pre 1985 golf )wheels. 14" wheels are the smallest wheel size I can fit over my front brakes. So far I dont see any reason to upgrade my wheels and tires. May be in future I will find a set of 14X9 wheels but not any time soon. since I removed most of the weight from the back of the car, it tend to understeer more. Next week I am going to relocate my battery to the trunk and remove my front sway bar. I hope this will balance it out. Overall it handles very good.

The Azenis are good tires. If anyone needs hard to find auto parts, ask me. I work at a Tuner Shop which also has Muscle Car parts, and I could get them to you for my cost.

Perjad jaan, thanks for the specs. I agree, the Mercedes is more sprightly than outright blistering in terms of straight line performance, no doubt your VW will be quicker. In top end, however.. You might want to lower your front spring rate considering that you are running more power to reduce attributes of understeer and torque steer if removing the front anit-roll bar does not. I also know some people here running high-horsepower Civic VTis with larger section tires in the front, 225 x 16 for front with 196 x 16 for rear, to reduce push in tight corners. Do you have any dyno bhp figures for your jetta?
BTW - I dont mind posting my license plate :) I do block out pictures of my freinds' cars for their privacy, but for mine I dont mind if people identify it!
IK COP
07-06-2004, 10:55 AM
ali jaan, next time on I am on track I will get a better idea how the removal of front sway bar has effected the handling. running different size rubber is not a wise thing on a front wheel drive car. It will make the car unpredictable. It may be good for drag racing tho!
Last time on dyno It pushed 120 Hp and 130 torque to the wheel. with 20% powertrain loss. It weighs around 2000lb.
thats it, im taking out my spare tyre and jack in the boot to speed things up!!

Thats a start. Now remove that engine and drop in a VW 2.0 16v engine change your tranny to a close ratio 4K out of a 84 GTI and you will be cooking... then again you can save yourself a lot of trouble by selling the soda can and buy a real Euro pocket rocket "the mighty GTI" :)

maybe my next car will be a golf. iv heard bad things about the new golfs (2000-2004), so maybe a 96 reg gti or something. im really looking forward to driving a more powerful car than the civic. i mean the civic is fine for the city but on the open road its a bit of a turtle.
