Iran Denies Videotaping Sensitive Areas in New York
IRNA
Jun 30, 2004, 22:31

The permanent mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations categorically denied the shooting of videotapes and photos from "security or sensitive" New York City tourist sites by two Iranian security guards, a press release attributed to Morteza Ramandi, press attache of the Iranian mission said on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

"At the request of the U.S. Mission to the UN, two security guards of the Iranian Mission to the UN curtailed their temporary assignment and left the United States on Saturday," he said. The U.S. mission's note to that effect invoked the security guards' shooting of and videotaping in May 2004 of areas in New York as the basis for the request and, contrary to what was attributed to an anonymous U.S. official, nothing else whatsoever was conjured up to justify the request, the press release added.

According to the press release, the guards in question never failed to observe any "no photography" signs. The videotapes and photos they shot were obviously only of popular tourist attractions in New York City which are of interest to any visitor to the city such as the Central Park, museums, parades and the like.

"We categorically deny that they ever took any photos of anything of a security or sensitive nature. Millions of foreigners, be they on leisure or business trips, visit New York every year, and foreigners with cameras across the metropolitan area are quite familiar with these scenes everywhere.

It is a very unfortunate that a regular sightseeing and shooting session by two guards of this mission who were on holiday became so contentious and controversial," the press release said.

"We categorically deny that they ever took any photos of anything of a sensitive nature."

Imagine if they were to expel anyone who took photos of things of "sensitive nature" ;)
Browsing the internet wouldn't be as much fun for starters. :D :D
