Only considering the Asian Cup games, tables below show leaders in several categories.
Most Goals Scored in Asian Cup Matches Not surprisingly, Ali Daei who leads just about every offensive category for Iran’s National Team has scored the most goals during the Asian Cup Tournaments. One area Daei is not leading is the average goals per game where Behtash Fariba, the Iranian star of late 70’s has a slight edge. In this list, you could find all the main star forwards of Iran’s pasts and present. Kalani, Jabari and Behzadi were the stars of late 1960’s and early 70’s. Khorshidi and Roshan were the stars of mid. and late 1970’s. Alidusti made his mark in the early and mid. 1980’s. Peyous was the man in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Daei and Bagheri (both of them still active) have been the goal scorers of mid. 1990’s and early 2000’s.
Most Goals Scored in 1 Game The table below shows which players scored the most goals in a single Asian Cup match. Once again, Ali Daei leads the table with an unforgettable game against South Korea in 1995 where he scored 4 goals in 34 minutes, 1 of them from the penalty spot.
Hossein Kalani’s 3 goals performance against Iraq was very memorable. In 1972, Iran and Iraq had a turbulent relationship and Kalani’s 3 goals in xxx minutes created a nationwide celebration. Iran went on to win the Asian Cup championship that year in Thailand. Interestingly, Ali Jabari scored his 3 goals against Thailand (the host), the following game.
Most Impressive wins While Iran has had many lopsided victories in the qualifying games of Asian Cup, the four games below represent lopsided victories during the tournament. Perhaps the most surprising name below is South Korea and how Iran took the Korean team in pieces with a 6-2 victory where Daei scored 4 goals.
Most Games Played (minimum 9 games) The number of games played represents the longevity of a player in the National Team. Ghelichkhani and Abedzadeh each played in 3 Asian Cups. Daei has played in 2 but very likely will play in his third Cup in 2004.
